Italy to hire skilled workers from Bangladesh

Italy has agreed to take skilled workers from Bangladesh in the construction, tourism and shipbuilding sectors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed this by a press release.

The first political consultation meeting between Bangladesh and Italy was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome on the 7th of June, Wednesday.

Foreign Secretary Masoud Bin Momen and Secretary General of Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Riccardo Guariglia led the consultation on their respective sides.

Italy expressed satisfaction at this time as more than 46 percent of workers went to Italy from Bangladesh for seasonal and non-seasonal work under the Flusi Decree.

Before starting the political talks, Masood bin Momen and Riccardo Guariglia signed a memorandum of ‘understanding on political consultation between the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and Italy.’

In the meeting, both countries expressed interest in deepening relations in multiple fields including trade and investment, technology in Bangladesh’s textile sector, defense and security, ICT, agriculture, immigration and both sides agreed to control illegal immigration in Italy.

Meanwhile, Italy appreciated Bangladesh for providing shelter to the Rohingya and assured them of continued humanitarian assistance and assistance in their safe repatriation to Myanmar. And also the Italian delegation expressed interest in working closely with Bangladesh as a partner in the Indo-Pacific under the Indian Ocean Rim Association.
